Born and raised in southern Germany, I took my cravings for authentic German food, beer, and culture as reason enough to dive into the restaurant business, of which I knew nothing other than being on the customer side of the bar!
I am proud to offer real German cuisine that is based on family recipes and is authentic and hearty, while at the same time being refined by the creativity in our kitchen. I’m even prouder of our selection of fantastic German beers. Well maintained lines and a steady flow ensure freshness which is just as much of a priority as serving each beer in the proper glass. We offer more than 20 German beers most of which are hard to find anywhere else in the United States.
The beer is imported from Germany, the food is German-style comfort food, and the tables, made of reclaimed wood, underline our Biergarten atmosphere. But the similarities with what most people think is a typical German restaurant end right there. Neither the restaurant nor I fit any stereotypes: No jolly fellows swaying to folk music, no cuckoo clocks on the walls, no yodeling (ok, maybe sometimes). I'd like to represent the younger generation of Germans, people who grew up with German traditions but are able to translate them into a contemporary lifestyle.
I also place high emphasis on bringing a lot of culture, music, and performing arts into the Currywurst to entice our customers and to give them the feeling of being in Germany but in a New York style. We celebrate numerous German holidays, such as Advent and Christmas with traditional drink and food specials. During the World and Euro Cups, we turn the Currywurst Company into a „Fan-Zone“ for soccer fans of all nationalities.
Oktoberfest is celebrated throughout the year - Oktoberfest Parties every last Friday of the month and in September nobody in Long Beach can escape the craziness of Oktoberfest - complete with live music, mug holding contests, Dirndl, and Lederhosen.
Among the more than 150 eating establishments in Long Beach, East Atlantic Beach, Island Park, Oceanside, and Point Lookout there is no other authentic German restaurant actually run by Germans. There is a handful of German restaurants on Long Island but almost none that cater to the under-fifty crowd."German Gemütlichkeit", a concept best approximated by "coziness" in English, means that people sit together at long wooden tables, which allows socializing with your neighbors.
Let’s celebrate life together at the Currywurst Company! Prost!
