IPPNW is a non-partisan federation of national medical groups in 62 countries, representing tens of thousands of doctors, medical students, other health workers, and concerned citizens who share the common goal of creating a more peaceful and secure world freed from the threat of nuclear annihilation.
The Middle Powers Initiative is dedicated to the worldwide reduction and elimination of nuclear weapons, in a series of well-defined stages accompanied by increasing verification and control. MPI consists of eight international non-governmental organizations that work primarily with "middle power" governments to encourage and educate the nuclear weapons states to take immediate practical steps that reduce nuclear dangers, and commence negotiations to eliminate nuclear weapons.

Conference Organiser
Jobbeschreibung
Required for a period of 4 months from November 1, 2012 to February 29, 2013 to organise a conference „Creating the Conditions and Building the Framework for a Nuclear Weapons Free World” to take place on February 21 and 22 in the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Auswärtiges Amt).
The Conference Organiser will take responsibility for organising logistics for the conference including the venue, catering, conference packs, technical requirements for presentations and liason with the hotel. She/he will give direction to the Conference Assistants.
The applicant will speak both German and English fluently and have experience in the organisation of conferences. She/he should have good communication skills, particularly in communicating with diplomats and government representatives. Previous experience of working with NGOs is also preferable.
The Conference Organiser will be based in Berlin and work closely with the Project Director who is based in New York and the Country Contact for Middle Powers Initiative (MPI). Desk space will be made available in the office of a parliamentarian.
Working hours are flexible but calculated on an average of 30 hours a week. It is expected that at the beginning less hours are needed weekly and more during the immediate period before the conference more. A short-term contract as freelance worker (freier Mitarbeiter) will be concluded with the German affiliate of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) on behalf of MPI. The Conference Organiser should cover his/her own health and social insurance costs. She/he will receive a renumeration of 7,200 Euro for the whole work period.
