Baggerfahrer/in (Kanada) (Heavy Equipment Operator (Canada) )

Hours of Work: Typical site work rotations are a 21/7 day rotational basis with expected hours of work being 10 to 12 hours a day.

Position Summary
The heavy equipment operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in an efficient, safe and appropriate manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life while supporting construction activities and oilfield maintenance services. Heavy equipment may include dozer, excavator, scraper and other pieces of equipment.

Responsibilities
Duties may include but are not limited to:
•Operates all equipment in an efficient manner and for its intended use while supporting construction activities and oilfield maintenance services.
•Conducts pre-operational checks on equipment and cleans, lubricates and refills equipment as necessary; notifies the supervisor or foreman of all damaged or unsafe equipment or tools.
•Operates heavy equipment such as backhoes, dozers, loaders and graders to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel or other materials during construction and related activities.
•Operates dozers or other heavy equipment to clear brush and stumps and to build roads at related sites.
•Operates heavy equipment to lie, spread or compact gravel or other surface materials during highway and road construction.
•Operates heavy equipment to move, load and unload materials and supplies.
•Cleans heavy equipment as schedules and/or required, including removing personal belongings and trash from cab and wiping up spills etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Required: Must have basic reading and writing skills with the ability to speak English fluently with a minimum 5 years full time work experience as a heavy equipment operator supporting construction or civil earthworks activities and/or oilfield maintenance services.
•Preferred: Minimum 5 years full time work experience as a heavy equipment operator supporting construction or civil earthworks activities and/or oilfield maintenance services. This would include building roads, oil field leases and pads.
•Experience operating single engine 621 Caterpillar scrapers, D6/D8 Caterpillar or 650 John Deer dozers or 14-140 graders.
•Experience operating heavy equipment with GPS tracking devices such as Trimble or Topcon is considered an asset.
•Ability to make basic measurements and mathematical calculations.
•Basic understanding of survey grades and construction methods.
•Ability to read instructions, follow technical specifications and grade plans.
•Must have valid Driver’s license with a relatively clean driver’s abstract.
•Sound understanding of safety regulations, safe work practices and work procedures and be capable of assisting in maintaining safe work sites.
•Good vision and spatial ability.
•Good eye-hand coordination and good manual dexterity.
•Physical strength and stamina.
•Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
•Basic small hand and power tool knowledge is considered an asset.
